 Vulcanium founder James Leopold began his titanium career in a converted dairy. That's where Vulcanium was in 1967 when he bought it ... three employees working with a metal few people even knew existed. More than a quarter of a century later, titanium is a marketing buzzword for everything from industrial equipment to medical implants and Vulcanium's reputation for excellence in design, fabrication and service has made it the standard for titanium products and mill goods worldwide.
Great service starts with global resources, multiple warehouses and the design expertise of Vulcanium's own Engineering Department. It continues with a sales and customer service staff conversant in the standards and requirements of aerospace, medical, commercial and industrial titanium use. Over the years, Vulcanium has acquired other businesses (the Metal Finishing Division of Astrometallurgical in 1979, Futura in 1984) and become a respected supplier of titanium mill products. In 1996, we expanded our line to include aerospace metals; in 1998 we added aluminum anodizing racks; in 2001 Vulcanium Metals Incorporated received its ISO certification (ISO-9001). But, we have never lost sight of the fact that it's client satisfaction that means a job well done.
 Providing the finest possible service means that every member of our team feels pride of ownership in every item shipped. Kaizen/Continuous Improvement was implemented in 1992 to reduce delivery and lead time by two to four weeks. In 1994, Vulcanium won an Illinois Manufacturers' Association Team Excellence Award with its QIP 250 program. QIP 250 has been updated to speak more directly to customers' concerns. This improved program, now called Focus 250, challenges all employees to raise quality standards while competing for quarterly and annual stipends. Vulcanium fully funds all projects and has awarded over $30,000 in prize money since the program's inception. It's not luck that Vulcanium has customers dating back to that converted dairy. Neither is it by chance that we still have employees who were here with Jim in those earliest days.
